EPC-REC/EPC-EMIT Traffic Counter Combo:
Introduction: The EPC-REC/EPC-EMIT Pedestrian Counter consists of two parts;
an infrared emitter and a receiver. If you are looking for a cost-effective
solution with upgrade capabilities, then this pedestrian counter may be
perfectly suited for your needs. You see, this product will allow the customer
to obtain a single running traffic total, by interfacing with the EPC-COMM
Handheld Data Collection Unit. However, the customer can, at any time, upgrade
by purchasing the EPC-MAIN Data Server, which connects to the PC and gives the
customer the ability to view and print the
traffic data in any user-selectable increments (i.e., 15, 30, 60 minutes),
depending on the EPC software that is installed on the PC.
|
Installation: This pedestrian counter is mounted on the sides of the entrance.
The EPC-EMIT is mounted on one side and emits the infrared beam across the entrance.
The EPC-REC is the receiver the “brain” of the two pieces. It determines if a
pedestrian has passed through the field of view and logs the data. It is mounted on
the other side of the entrance. The EPC-EMIT emits the infrared beams so that the
EPC-REC can receive them. Once the beams are broken, the EPC-REC knows that a
pedestrian has passed through its field of view.
Power: Both the EPC-REC and EPC-EMIT are powered by two AA-sized, 3.6V batteries.
Alternatively, they can be powered by A/C adapter or by the EPC-BATT Extended Life
Battery Pack.
Interfacing with the EPC-REC: There is no display on the units and no buttons
(except for a Reset button). The EPC-REC must be connected to one of two devices in
order to read the traffic data or adjust any settings. These devices are the EPC-COMM
Handheld Data Collection Unit and the EPC-MAIN Data Server. Please view the section
in this document for each of these two devices.
Feature Overview: The EPC-REC contains a number of features, many of which are
unique in the industry. Some of them are:
- Directional Sensing: The EPC-REC can distinguish between incoming and
outgoing pedestrians.
- Buzzer: The buzzer will sound when activity is sensed. The buzzer can
be turned off or on.
- 8000 Entry Memory: The EPC-REC saves 8000 entries and places a date and
time stamp on each entry. This means that the EPC-REC can store 8000
entries before it needs to be connected to the EPC-MAIN and transmit the
information.
- Auxiliary Ports: The EPC-REC has two auxiliary digital ports. These
will send a signal to a third-party device. It can be programmed by the
user to send the signal when a pedestrian enters or exits, or it can send
the signal for both entering and exiting. There are also two auxiliary
serial ports. These will send either the daily traffic total, the current
hour’s traffic total or the current occupancy total to a third-party device
via RS-232 connection. By default, these ports are shut off when shipped,
but can be activated through the EPC-COMM or EPC-MAIN.
- Low Battery LED: Both the EPC-REC and EPC-EMIT each have a low battery
LED indicator.
- Hideaway Wiring Capabilities: The EPC-REC and EPC-EMIT have cutouts for
all potential wire in two places. One place is on the side of the box and
the other place is on the back of the device. This allows the user to run
the wire on the outside of the wall or on the inside of the wall. If the
user wishes to hide the wires from view, then the user would use the cutouts
on the side of the enclosure that will be against the wall. The user would
run the cable through a cutout in the wall and then the EPC-REC and EPC-EMIT
will cover the holes in the wall, as well as the wire itself. This allows
for a much cleaner installation because the wires are hidden from view.
It also deters tampering with the wires since they will not be seen and
cannot be accessed without taking the device off of the wall.
Optional Hardware: The following hardware can be purchased and connected to the EPC-REC.
- EPC-RF Transceiver
- EPC-H/A Mini Sensor/Emitter Pair
- EPC-BATT Extended Life Battery Pack
- EPC-EXT-BUZ External Buzzer
The following hardware can be purchased and connected to the EPC-EMIT:
- EPC-BATT Extended Life Battery Pack
